kiln-fired art glass

Charlton Glassworks is a family owned and operated glass studio located in the Pacific Northwest.  Our goal is to design and produce a line of functional glass art that maintains a high standard of quality and appeal.  Aside from focusing on design, we are highly committed to our quality control, customer service, and shipping schedule.  All founded on a price structure conscious of the retail fesability of the individual piece of glass art.

Raised on the shores of the North Puget Sound, John Moilanen, is a third generation Northwest artist and entrepreneur.   Having studied at the University of Washington and gaining a unique skill set acquired from his Mother, Sandie Charlton, and his Fathers, Tom Charlton and John Moilanen Sr., John continues to push the elements of design and application related with glass and metals.  Marketing his work across the country at high-end wholesale trade shows in New York, San Fransisco, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, and Seattle, John has gained a national reputation as a proven glass artist and businessman.  Current work may be found in galleries across the country, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Designing glass applications for more than twenty years, John Moilanen, has revived the ancient art of combining glass and metal.  The individually, hand-cut copper, brass, steel, and aluminum pieces are fused between layers of glass to form functional pieces of art.  The 1500-degree kiln turns the metals into unique, fiery images.  The result of the eighteen-hour heating and cooling cycle is a durable, yet beautiful, piece of glass art.  Combined with custom iron stands created from within his steel shop, these multi-media pieces of art are sure to impress and bring joy to the collector.
